Roughnecks Ecom founder Reco Jefferson describes Facebook Marketplace as, “the new Craigslist of sorts, right?”

“Craigslist still gets traffic but not near as much,” Reco explains. “If you look at Facebook Marketplace, there’s all types of stuff on there. People are selling dogs, cats, chickens, robots, all sorts of crap.”

“But you can add photos and make all your listings look really good, there’s so much more detail, the whole nine.”

“So why would you do Facebook Marketplace as opposed to Amazon?”

The first reason Reco gives is simply because of the payment structure.

With Amazon or Walmart, you get paid every two weeks. Similar to having a job.

Because of that, a lot of people don’t have the capital or credit available to fulfill orders, on their dime, and then wait a couple weeks to make their money back.

Not an issue with Facebook Marketplace, where it only takes a day.

So you put your banking info or PayPal address in, you get paid out either daily or every few days, worst case scenario.

So like, with Amazon automation, you’ll usually wanna have at least $15k to $20k in revolving credit.

Whereas, with Facebook Marketplace, you could get by with a fraction of that.

Another potential advantage is that, on Facebook Marketplace, people are typically ready to buy right now.

They don’t need to do a bunch of research or sleep on it, depending on the item of course.

Also, it’s less competitive.

Everyone’s already been on Amazon forever and Walmart’s even starting to get a little crowded too. So there’s that.

Most people don’t even realize you can dropship on Facebook.

They assume you’re limited to flipping products in your local area. But Facebook Marketplace allows you to enter in shipping information, which means you can cast a much wider net.

If you get in now, you could be among the first adopters.

And you’ll be rewarded for it, same as people were back in the day with Amazon dropshipping.

You get in early, you work out the kinks, you learn the rules, get lots of positive reviews, and sort of extend your lead over the newcomers.

“I do believe the same thing’s gonna happen with Facebook Marketplace,” Reco says, “where, if you’re one of those pioneers and you have hundreds of sales, thousands of sales, whatever, Facebook is gonna kind of reward you with more traffic.”

“You’re gonna be seen first by the people on the platform, as opposed to someone who’s newer in the space who’s just coming in trying to make some money.”

“Also, the other intangible, is the 5%,” Reco adds.

“Amazon takes 15%, but Facebook only takes five. And 10% extra is a pretty big deal when it comes to ecommerce.”

So with Amazon automation, you might pocket $2k off $20k in sales, but it should be at least double that with Facebook automation.

But it’s not all puppies and rainbows, right, because you don’t get near as much traffic on Facebook as you do on Amazon.

So you gotta weigh the pros and cons.

“I feel like Facebook Marketplace is good for the everyday man who’s trying to pay their mortgage, pay their car, maybe get a new car, things like that,” Reco says.

“Whereas, if you’re trying to make $30k a month, net profit, you’re more likely to do that on Amazon, on Walmart.”

“If you’re trying to make a few thousand extra a month, that’s probably what this is gonna be.”

“If you’re trying to do something crazy and make $10-, $20-, $30,000 a month, Facebook Marketplace is probably not gonna be the platform for you. Go with Amazon. Walmart’s been having too many issues.”

Moral of the story?

Facebook’s probably the automation opportunity for most people.

They all have their caveats and issues, but still, it’s a much more practical side hustle.

I don’t trust this guy though. Too many different offers. And I bet he doesn’t walk his talk.
