Joe Dickinson’s dabbled in all sorts of different side hustles. Offering social media management takes the cake. It’s made him hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Many companies need someone to manage their social media. Either because they’re not even doing it currently; or they are but just not very well; or maybe it’s working but it feels like such a chore.
Not to mention, new businesses are popping up like burnt toast every single day. Guess what, they need it too.
You can provide a solution to that problem.
And you can charge ’em good money to do it… since they’ll make several times that much back.
Joe lives and breathes this stuff. He’s been doing it since 2015.
Started out offering only web design and social media management. Over time, he expanded to offer ad management, sales funnels, graphic design, branding, and even software development.
He’s worked with some big names. Eric Worre. Eric Spofford. Jessie Lee Ward. Dan Fleyshman. Just to name a few.
Joe’s done well for himself. How well? Let’s just say he’s not selling plasma to make rent this month, alright?
His Responsiv agency is firing on all cylinders.
If you ask Joe, social media management oughta be Chapter 1 of your business story.
- It creates a solid foundation.
- It’s the easiest skill to learn.
- Has the highest ROI.
- Opens the most doors.
Think about it: there’s a platform for every business. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, X, Snapchat, LinkedIn.
Every business in every industry will have customers on at least one of those, right?
You don’t have to master them all… but be familiar with at least Facebook and Instagram, Joe says.
Know the specs for those platforms. Ideal picture size. Ideal video size. The tools you can use to edit them.
Basic stuff. Not hard to learn, Joe promises.
How do you know what to post? Simple. Ask the client for photos and footage of their work. It doesn’t have to be super high end, either. They can just use their iPhone.
Your job is to then edit, upload, and optimize.
How often do ya post?
Joe averages three pieces of content… per week… per client. One video, one image, and one engagement post.
Stay consistent. Use a scheduling software to queue up posts ahead of time, Joe advises.
Wow, I’m surprised any business would pay for a measly three posts a week, but okay.
Make decisions based off data, Joe says.
If there’s a day and time that gets more interaction, double down on that.
10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (Eastern) have worked well for Joe.
Cool, what else?
Reply to comments. Engage. Comment on similar accounts to pull in new followers for your clients. Run competitions and giveaways. Collaborate with other influencers or brands.
Don’t worry, you can charge extra for this.
Ooh, and it wouldn’t hurt to know about:
- Copywriting
- Best practices for creatives
- Calls to action
- Hashtags
- How to spot trends
- Evergreen content
- Where to source content
- Cross-posting
How to get clients though?
Go to Google. Type in something like “plumbers near me.” Or whatever niche you want.
Comb through the results. Bring up their sites. Look ’em up on social.
Are they even on there? What’s the quality like? Super grainy pics? Inconsistent posting? Crickets in the comments? Perfect. That’s who you wanna pitch.
Alright?
And there’s unlimited niches, Joe says:
- Plumbing and heating
- Tree care
- Fencing companies
- Real estate agents
- Handyman services
- Power washing
- Restaurants
He could go on and on but we’d be here all day.
Now. How do you pitch ’em, you ask?
Joe prefers short selfie-style and/or screen recording videos. Don’t overthink it. Just introduce yourself. Show ’em how you can help. Tell ’em what to do next.
Send it four ways: text, email, Facebook DM, Instagram DM. That way, they’re sure to see it.
Create a proposal for anyone interested.
Shoot another video walking them through this proposal. Use strong visuals, give examples.
Close, collect money, then go crush it for ’em.
How to scale up?
Ask for referrals. Run paid ads. Leverage testimonials and case studies. Raise your rate.
